Poultry

Our family has been breeding poultry since before I was born. We first began seriously breeding poultry when we purchased our first incubator in 1999, but have been caring for poultry our entire lives. We now keep around 100 chooks and around 20 other types of poultry.  We breed Show quality chooks, including Rhode Island Reds in bantam and standard , Bantam Partridge Wyandotte, Chinese silkie, as well as some Rhode Island Red cross Isa Browns for layers. We also breed Peafowl (white, pied and normal), Guinea Fowl (lavender, pied and pearl), Pure Golden Pheasants, Ringneck Pheasants (melanistic, cinnamon and normal), Silver Pheasants, Japanese and King Quail, Muscovy and Indian Runner Ducks, Pilgrim Geese, Brown Chinese Geese, Turkeys and White Fantail Pigeons.

Peafowl

We have kept and bred peafowl for over ten years, Having up to forty birds at one time. We Now have a total of 12 birds, incluiding Whites, Pieds and Normals. We breed these through Spring and Summer, when we pen them up to protect hens from foxes and dogs while they sit on eggs. They are allowed to free range the rest of the year, sleeping in our very tallest gum trees.

Guinea Fowl

We have kept guineafowl for around 15 years now. They are fantastic birds, hassle free and love to free range and hunt insects. They can be quite noisy and can fly very well. In the breeding season they like to roam far and wide, and after losing a hen to a fox whilst she was sitting we like to keep them safe in the breeding season and keep them penned up. Like the peafowl, whilst they are not breeding they are allowed to free range over the property and like to sleep in the highest branches of some of our gum trees.

Pheasants

Pheasants are very attractive birds. We have housed pheasants in our avaries with our parrots for roughly 15 years. They too are seasonal breeders, however they often do not make the best mothers. We collect their eggs, incubate them and rear them in a brooder. We keep two species of pheasant, the Golden Pheasant and the Ringneck Pheasant. Our ringneck pheasants come in the normal colour pattern, as well as the cinnamon and malanistic mutations.
